We haven't been on the road a lot since returning from our summer adventure. But we do wander the trails and paths throughout Van Cortlandt Park as often as we can. Mondays and Tuesdays have a wacky schedule for public school teachers in NYC, so I race home on Wednesday. Kenobi knows we're going out... Continue Reading →
A Full Day of Hiking in Niagara Falls
After a great night's sleep, we were ready for a full day of hiking. We started out on the path that leads to Niagara Falls National Park, walked right past all of the attractions that say, "No dogs allowed," and kept heading up along the river to the Gorge Trails. This was hiking! We grabbed... Continue Reading →
Day One at the Falls
Our first day out, we walked to Niagara Falls National Park. It's about an eight-minute walk from the Hanover House. We wandered the entire walking trail on the U.S. Side. Not much of a hike, but a really nice walk. We started around Goat Island, ventured out across Three Sister's Islands and back, and continued... Continue Reading →
Driving to Niagara Falls
We got a late start. On the way we encountered road work, accidents (One so bad a car was overturned.), sudden downpours that reduced visibility to what seemed to be one foot, a tornado warning, and NYC rush hour. Google maps estimated time of trip was just under seven hours. We left at 5:00 pm.... Continue Reading →
Happy Anniversary!
As of yesterday, Kenobi and I have been together for one year. It's been quite a year with paw cuts, allergic reactions, new territory, many friends, and a couple not-so-friendly encounters, but overall a wonderful year with happiness and warmth. Kenobi makes friends everywhere he goes, and people are always asking to pet him. Small... Continue Reading →
Complications
Examining the maps, deciding how far to go each day, what to see and do, where to sleep, food . . . When will I do laundry? How much clothing to pack, locations of laundries, the price (coin vs. card), only the necessities, please. I like to travel light. But that's not complicated, really. No... Continue Reading →
What does my graduate degree have to do with it?
On our evening walk to the park, we passed a man who asked me if I was going to Columbia University. (I was wearing my Columbia sweatshirt.) I told him that I did. He sort-of hummed and hawed something about how that had to do with living NYC, and how odd it was that someone... Continue Reading →
Promoting Good Will Towards Pitties
Sunday morning is my favorite time of the week. It's calm and quiet. No one's on the street--no honking, no yelling, no overly loud conversations in the hallway, and nothing is being dropped. All this means Kenobi is still snoozing, and I get some time to myself. It's a time I can really sit and... Continue Reading →
