Wirth Park is a great place to go for a hike in Minneapolis–right in the city. The Butler Wild Flower Garden and Bird Preserve is located within the park and is surrounded by all the trails, so you get to see some more exotic birds while on the trails, too.
Dogs are not allowed in the garden, but they are welcome in the park. Many trails do not allow cyclist, which we enjoy, but there are some great trails for cyclists. As far as walking/hiking, there are paths that are paved like the one above, and there are other paths that are more narrow, natural trails like the one bellow.
I really enjoy this particular stretch because it overlooks a small pond and trees which offer some great views of birds from above–rather than looking up through branches. If they cooperate, you can catch some great images.
We wandered around for about two hours backtracking and looping around. I didn’t capture a lot of great photos today, but I managed to get a couple.
Tomorrow we’ll be revisiting Fort Snelling and walking as many trails as we can this time.
